There is a misconception that abundance is about wanting more. But true abundance is to know in your bone that you are enough – because you are.

In the past few weeks, I have been visiting some mega cities as well as some hauntingly beautiful natural scenery.

Before my eyes, mountain after mountain, peak above peak, there is always more potential in us. As much as we are content with who we are today, there is always one more layer of mystery inside – so that we look forward to life to welcome its unfolding.

Intrigued by the big contrast, it is interesting to see how our immediate surroundings impacts on our intention, priority and overall wellbeing, by a non-stop feeding of the unwritten scripts into our subconscious mind.

Increasingly pressured by the modern lifestyle and everyone else’s expectations, many people are confused between abundance and attachment.

There is nothing wrong with obtaining any external possessions, in fact, we should enjoy the journey of getting there. However, the problem arises when we tie our self-worth to them.

Our possessions (or lack of) cannot determine our self-worth. Our worthiness is to value who we are regardless of where we came from or what we do.

Abundance is not about chasing things that make us feel good temporarily – no matter how convincing it can be, things cannot fill the void inside.

Abundance is not about competition – sitting lonely on top of a pyramid without touching the ground will only make us feel even more isolated in the long run.

Abundance is not about having-it-all – wanting too much is only scarcity manifested in a different form. We just need the right things and the right experiences at the right time.

So, what is abundance then?

 

If we look around, Mama Earth grows mountains and oceans, trees and precious metals, delicious food and fabulous flowers. All effortlessly.

Our world is an abundant one. We knew this when we were born, yet we might have lost our sense of abundance as time goes by.

There is a misconception that abundance is about wanting more. But true abundance is to know in your bone that you are enough – because you are.

Contrary to common belief, abundance is not about excessive usage of resources – but tuning back to our true nature.

 

It’s about both giving and receiving freely.

It’s about caring for our own heart and each other’s.

It’s about cultivating our ability to enjoy our everyday.

It’s about believing in yourself despite the external ups and downs.

It’s about a deep, meaningful connection with the Self and the world. 

It’s about opportunities to grow and express, and our freedom to choose.

 

However, if we forget about what abundance really looks like, we tend to seek assurance or grab approval externally. That’s when we can feel frustrated and get cut off from the flow.

1. First thing first, to live truly abundantly, you’ll need your magic, your zest, your gusto. They are reflected in your presence.

When you step into your presence, people might not be able to point the finger on it, but they can tell!

Show your presence by being more open-hearted and less judgmental, by activating your senses instead of numbing them out, by honouring your most authentic Self rather than hiding them.

You don’t need to become a big Spiritual Guru to show your presence. This is a simple act, no matter where you are, what you do::

+ When you say hello to your neighbours, really mean it.  Pause your mental screens, look into their eyes, sharing your good vibes.

+ If someone has done a good job for you, don’t hold back from expressing your appreciation, no matter how “shy” you are.

+ Give genuine praise as generously and regularly as possible – just because!

Be generous with your presence.

Yes, it takes work. But it will make your life work better.

 

 2. Replace complaints with gratitude.

Life is not perfect, moaning is tempting. But is our complaint constructive? Will it improve the situation at all?

If not, we should focus on what we are grateful to have. The more we celebrate what we have, the more we’ll notice how much there is available to us.

The world loves a sincere heart. A sincere heart gives thanks. Pay attention to people and things that you feel grateful for.

Even if your situation right now is not ideal, there is likely to be someone in a different part of the world who is eager to have your life.

Periodically nature clears away what is no longer necessary, so should we. To be in the abundance flow, we need less distraction.

Make a list of things, habits and patterns that no longer good for your health, happiness, creativity, peace, wealth.

Don’t just make a mental list but grab a piece of blank paper, write them down – it’ll help you reflect better. Then start the decluttering process as soon as possible.

When you let go of the toxins and the stale, your whole system – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially, creatively… will breathe better.

 

5. Say YES to the right things, even if they scare you.

Give yourself permission to say YES to things/people that make your heart sing, your Spirit soar, and your body grounded.

Go to your genius zone, even if that means you’ll have to stretch your comfort zone more than usual.

Meanwhile, have courage to say NO to things/people who make you feel small, wrong, under-appreciated, out-of-alignment.

But of course, do offer a few alternatives if it is a well-intentioned request – we should treat people how we want to be treated.

Hug more, kiss more, and touch more.

When your body knows how to receive so will your mind.

One of the best practical ways to feel more relaxed about money is to sort out your personal finance and make it better than last week/month/year.

You can start paying off the debt that costs you the most interest;

You can start saving more (go and set up that standing order);

You can add one more income stream while keeping your expenses the same;

You can proactively look around and get the best deal for your investment.

These are all simple, ground work, nothing glamorous. However, step by step, bit by bit, they’ll make a real difference to the quality of your life, and you’ll become less nervous about money.

 

10. Connect with a potential client that you can help with.

We work to make a difference.

There is someone out there right now who could benefit from your skills, talents, advice, wisdom and healing presence.

Send a message to a potential client, make sure that s/he feels heard and understood, and let them know that you are here for them.

If they say no, be gracious and detached.

Reconnect with your pure & clear intention. Trust that an even better fit will show up and you will absolutely manifest a better opportunity.

Keep making new connections in a way that energies you and delights you.

This is really common sense, but nowadays common sense is too easily forgotten.

Instead of being seduced by empty promises, we should get back into the truth of life. Instead of being our own worst enemy, we should lead by example and be of service.

The world is changing constantly, so is the best way to serve your community.

Abundance has a very light energy, it becomes most available to you when you are not stressed out, nor hanging on to resentment, drama, or past entanglements.

Forgive everyone who has annoyed or trespassed against you in the past, especially your close and loved ones.

Forgiveness is not about excusing the wrongs done to us, or exposing our wound and getting hurt all over again, but letting go of resentment, or the haunting mentality of “they still owe me”.

No matter how hard it is, forgiveness is a choice. Perhaps it is a lot easier to forgive others than forgiving ourselves. However, forgiveness is one of the most empowering ways to grow our soul, one of the best gifts we can give to ourselves.

Even if forgiveness is challenging for you right now, at least stop hanging on to those stories. There is a big and beautiful world right in front of you waiting for you to explore.

Each time we forgive, we liberate more joy and peace, we relieve heavy burdens in our heart, and we open up to a whole new level of abundance.

 

13. Show up to life.

Invite life to open up and line up some good surprises for you. Be curious and wondrous to find out what is waiting for you.

And most importantly, do show up.

That means, keep developing good daily habits, be on time for the appointments you have promised, follow through with your commitment, and aim to over-deliver once in a while.

Life is not always easy, but there is hidden sweetness no matter what your circumstances are. Be the courageous one to find it out.

 

14. Enjoy some quality time just for yourself.

Give yourself sufficient time and space to write, read, journal, make art and create.

When your creative expression is in flow, other areas will follow too.

 

15. Reconnect with someone.

Pick up the phone and call a good friend but who you haven’t been in touch for a while due to “life getting in the way”.

Ask your friend if there is anything you can support him/her. I once helped an old friend landed a job this way. But I was the one who benefited more, as I was in a creative dry spell phase, and his happiness had been my inspiration for months afterwards. You never know…

 

16. Commit to your goal.

Love your vision, and commit to your goal no matter what.

Want to write a book? Make it a daily habit, schedule 100 hours in your calendar, and put it as your priority.

Want to become healthier? You cannot just sit on the couch and think into it. Get up and get going. Experiment with a diet that works for your body. Establish an exercise routine that excites you every day.

You have a financial goal? Brainstorm 100 ways to achieve it. Start going through this process with an open mind – you’ll be very surprised…One of my clients successfully funded her research, despite resources not being obvious at the beginning, this process itself expanded her mindset and thus reality eventually. 

 

17. Dedicate a moment to appreciate your community. 

Maybe it is your local church community that has helped you going through a difficult time.

Maybe it is your hobby classmates who support your creative adventures.

Take a moment to appreciate them being there for you, to witness your journey, to lend a helping hand where possible.
