We cultivate gifts as well as gathering lessons from past lives. Sometimes our calling in our current life is related to the energies from our past lives. Knowing your past life history or traits can make you feel being seen, understood, heard, honoured and accepted, which can propel healing and real changes in your life right now. This is a story about how such a subtle shift can inspire healing and breakthrough, plus 3 tips on growing from your past life lessons.
A past life is not a foreign country, who we were and what happened can still influence us multi-dimensionally.
Unfinished dreams become yearnings, unresolved wounds are asking for healing, and your soul lessons are woven into your divine calling.
Many people feel that they are not reaching their true potential or they are held back from living their divine purpose. They feel that they hit a wall, and sometimes it could be because they are weighted down by past life wounds.
When I first started my intuitive coaching/mentoring practice, not many people were open or receptive towards soul patterns or energy work.
Past life was a topic that I hesitated to bring up.
However, more often than not, when a client hit an invisible wall and we explored their past life energies, there was always a well-deserved shift happening.
Being seen, understood, heard, honoured and accepted can propel real changes in life.
Some courageous clients, their souls choose a difficult path, wanting to crush a lot of goals altogether this time.
*Linda was one of them.
Linda has completed a life coaching certificate from CoachU, now she is about to launch her spiritual counsellor practice, with the aim of making this her main career eventually.
As much as it seems that she is one step closer to her dream lifestyle, “something big is stopping me, which I can’t describe or pin down precisely”, Linda said, “I feel so stuck, powerless and extremely frustrated.”
I remember clearly that the moment I connected with Linda, I was impressed by her statesman-like presence. When we started working together, her energy field showed her past lives trait of playing important political roles: making decisions that impacted hundreds of lives, if not thousands.
By the way, it doesn’t mean that Linda is more special or important than anyone else at a soul level. Just that her soul preferred to choose this particular pattern to learn about life.
I also sensed the pain, anger and guilt from one particular life, when he (she was a he that lifetime), as a high-ranking politician, made decisions which caused complications and hardship for a great many people, despite good intentions.
No wonder she is hesitating to step forward to launch her practice now.
Her soul still carries the guilt, shame and judgement towards herself.
Subconsciously she doesn’t want to call the shots which influence the lives of others anymore.
However, she longs to bring more peace and happiness to the world, by working closely with people.
Once I relayed this insight to her, she was laughing at the irony “Why did my soul choose this path, and why am I doing this to myself?”
So we looked deeper into it – actually this is such an intelligent plan from her soul.
Linda’s consciousness has an ambitious goal to cram lots of karmic lessons in this lifetime so that she could grow more as a soul.
Having karmic lessons doesn’t necessarily mean that you have done something bad. They are just lessons to learn. No matter what karmic lessons you are learning, they help you grow your capacity to love more.
Linda’s previous roles were always “high up”, which doesn’t support her growth anymore. In this life, she wants to step down a little, and establish intimate connections with fellow human beings in a less controlling way.
Yet the energy from her past lives confused her…
She felt uncomfortable to suggest or recommend anything to people, yet she was drawn to spiritual counselling. This push-pull dynamic was unsettling for her.
Nevertheless, as difficult as such internal battles are, launching and growing her own spiritual practice will:
1) prompt her to heal the shame and guilt;
2) fulfil her purpose, at least for the time being.
I shared my thoughts with Linda, “It doesn’t really matter what topics you are discussing with your clients, you don’t dictate their choices, but rather, you hold your inner light, so that they can see themselves better: what’s their purpose, and how they can go about it.
Depending on the circumstances, you might give some suggestions or share your knowledge, but you are not interfering with their freewill.
You are providing them with a safe space where they can explore their calling. With such respect and tenderness, together you can encourage your clients’ wisdom to reveal itself and nourish their inner-voice.
This might be referred to as “aha moments”, “quantum leaps”, ‘breakthroughs” – whatever it is called, in essence it is about helping them to elevate their true calling.
It is not about you, but instead, how being seen can rekindle someone’s inner-fire.
Without a believing mirror like yourself, it might be very difficult for them to express or articulate their dreams.
That’s the value of your work – acknowledge their beauty and gifts, honour their Spirit, purpose and lessons, and offer a helping hand when they are stuck or lost.”
Linda started to feel a lot more relaxed and assured. As she began to shift her attention from her subconscious fear to her role as a spiritual coach, she was no longer trapped. Step by step, she started to grow her practice, and her fear gradually subsided.
Linda’s story might be unique but many people can relate to it. Energies between lifetimes interact with each other. It’s important to make peace with your past lives in order to move forward with grace.
One of the core reasons that we go through dramas or traumas in past lives, is to learn particular lessons and gain human experiences. If you are able to recognise lessons and gifts from your experiences, your old stories will have less and less power over you.
Perhaps you’ve already had some clues about your past lives through recurring dreams, unexplained connections with particular cultures or places…
Pay attention to those hints from your soul. They might contain wise messages to guide your current situation.
Maybe in this lifetime you need to learn or strengthen a particular skill so that you can achieve a better balance.
Perhaps your soul has chosen a different upbringing to past incarnations to gain a brand new and valuable perspective in life.
Or you need to let go of “authority figures” in order to live more freely and joyfully.
1. Recognise your soul history.
Acknowledging out soul history, we will be more likely to see both our true weaknesses and strengths. We will be less likely to abandon our own journey or fall in with the wrong crowd, who we have no business with.
If you wish, jot down some clues which reveal more of your soul history. For examples, things you are thinking about a lot, or are drawn into without any obvious reasons.
It would be easy to dismiss these little clues, but instead, allow them to serve as a window to get to know yourself better.
It won’t be that these little hints are your fortune tellers nor should you go down a rabbit hole; however, these little hints are likely to represent forgotten pieces of you, which need to be honoured, witnessed and understood now. Be there for your forgotten aspects and shower them with self-compassion.
This way, you will bring wholeness to your current situation and your divine light can help you navigate it mindfully.
2. Use “now” to heal “then”.
As you know that time is an illusion. If you jump out of this 3D paradigm, everything is all happening simultaneously beyond a level that our brain can understand.
Energies between lifetimes are always interacting, and you can take advantage of this, to heal yourself even deeper.
Use the gift of your free will to invite your Higher Self to transmit its compassion and pure light to a troubled lifetime. And meet your “past self” as his/her future self, whispering to his/her ears, “Everything is OK. All is well with the soul.”
The lighter your past self feels, the freer you’ll be now.
3. Forgive yourself.
We are often harder on ourselves than on others. We tend to forgive mistakes or even wrongdoing from others, but withhold compassion towards ourselves.
We judge ourselves harshly, “This should not have ever happened!” “I should have known better” But holding grudges towards ourselves will not make our present (or anyone else’s) better.
Let the weights on your shoulder become the fuel to grow your capacity to love, instead of dragging you down.
Forgiveness is a choice. Even if it feels impossible right now, at least stop hanging on to those outworn stories. There is a big and beautiful world right in front of you waiting for you to explore.
Your soul history can be very vast and rich. It is also possible that your divine plan in this lifetime includes healing from your past life wounds.
Therefore, following your calling now will naturally support you in cultivating inner-peace.
During this process, you might encounter some challenges like Linda did. Nevertheless, as you learn to become compassionate towards yourself, burdens from past lives will be lifted and transformed into nutrients for this lifetime.
